Pediatric Audiology Specialty Certification (PASC) Exam Moves to Computer Delivery: Spring 2022

  • ABA News

The ABA is excited to announce that, beginning in spring 2022, the PASC exam will be delivered by computer with live remote proctoring. Read more about how computer-based exam delivery allows maximum flexibility for candidates to test where and when they want to.

In recent years, the Pediatric Audiology Specialty Certification (PASC) exam was administered in person each year at the American Academy of Audiology (AAA) Conference. While the conference is an ideal time for audiologists to come together, traveling to the annual AAA conference to complete the PASC exam could be a financial burden and delay one’s opportunity to attain the PASC credential.

When the COVID-19 pandemic started and the AAA 2020 Conference was cancelled, there were a dozen candidates scheduled to take the PASC exam. The American Board of Audiology needed to find an alternative delivery model at least on an interim basis, which entailed offering the exam at multiple sites around the country with ABA volunteer proctors.

After the ABA recruited volunteer credential holders to host and proctor exam candidates, the PASC exam was successfully offered over a two-week window at 10 sites across the country—from Maine to California—in October 2020. This remote, asynchronous delivery of this exam was a first for the ABA’s certification processes, and was a great success!

The remote in-person delivery model was continued in spring 2021, now in 13 locations, and with double the number of candidates than 2020. The increase in applications and exam candidates confirmed the value of flexible test locations and times to make the exam more accessible and the ABA continued to explore how to make it even more so.

With support from the Academy, the ABA is excited to announce that the PASC will now be offered through computer-based testing with live remote proctoring. Instead of traveling to a test center to complete the exam, the candidate will be able to take the test in the comfort of their own home or office.

Further, this flexibility in remote proctoring allows for better access to this opportunity, as the exam participant can choose from a wide array of exam appointments on various dates within the scheduled testing window.

Don’t miss out on your opportunity to attain the Pediatric Audiology Specialty Certification!
